Our sustainably farmed Atlantic salmon is the catch of the day!
Along with being delicious, salmon provides a wide range of health benefits. It is rich in protein, has a high content of omega-3 fatty acids, and includes several important vitamins and minerals.
“Maine Salmon” has a nice ring to it too! Aquabanq guarantees the traceability of our fish from farm to table. All our salmon will be hatched, reared, and harvested in Maine, United States, provenance guaranteed.
Farming salmon in optimal living conditions is a must, as it affects the quality and taste of our fish. That is why we don’t push production to the limit by using high stocking densities or growth hormones. Our fish feed does not contain GMO ingredients, and we do not use antibiotics.
Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is the largest species of farmed salmon by quantity. Within the United States, it makes up two-thirds of the overall salmon market.
Atlantic salmon has protein retention of 32%, and an average Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) close to 1.2, which makes salmon the most efficient when compared to poultry, pork, or cattle. In addition to resource-efficient production, farmed fish is also a climate-friendly protein source. There is less environmental impact in salmon production compared to the production of other protein sources:
Farmed Atlantic salmon diets are supplemented with the carotenoid astaxanthin in order to give the flesh its typical reddish-orange color. Both natural and synthetic astaxanthin is processed and absorbed by wild and farmed fish in exactly the same manner.
